Managing The Chequers Inn are Head Chef David Wharton and his partner, Karen Way. David was Head Chef at renowned gastro-pub, the Royal Oak, Poynings from 2002-2007. He trained at the Brighton Metropole Hotel, subsequently broadening his repertoire as Assistant Chef at an Italian and a Japanese restaurant in Sydney. In 2005 he beat Australian and U.S. competition to be named “PubChef BBQ Champion”. David has contributed recipes and cooking tips to magazines including Sussex Life, South Downs Living and PubChef.
Karen knows a thing or two about customer care having recently swapped life as a Flight Services Manager for Virgin for co-managing the Chequers.
The Chequers Inn was acquired in 2006 by the Brighton based company, Inn Brighton that operates 40 of the most successful pubs, bars and clubs in the city.
